Bafana Bafana legend, Shaun Bartlett is pleased with the current development which has seen former Nigerian Internationals, Finidi George and Michael Emenalo nick administrative and coaching posts in Spain and England. Finidi was unveiled as Betis’ Director of International Football while Emenalo was named assistant Chelsea coach following the sack of Ray Wilkins.
The appointments left Shauan in a state a pride.
“It is great to see that Africans are also being recognised for their coaching ability at European clubs nowadays. I will be waiting patiently for my time to come and hopefully will do everyone proud again,” he told SuperSport.com.
The former South African international also spoke on the racism and black players in the European Leagues. While admitting that the problem was a big one, the ex Charlton Athletic forward revealed that he never had to deal with the issue while plying his trade in the Barclays English Premier League.
"I never had any incidents in the Premier league as far as racism is concerned but had a few problems travelling to Eastern Europe,” he said.
Bartlett was part of the Bafana side that finished 3rd at the 2000 Africa Nations Cup in South Africa, a tournament he ended up as top scorer with 5 strikes.
“I never thought that I was going to be the top scorer and up to this day is still my best accolade for the national team."
Bartlett, who is now an accomplished broadcaster with SuperSport went on to achieve some great results with the national team, most notable, the victory over France and the gutsy display against Spain.
He recalled those moments with pride,
“It's always great when you beat a great nation like France in football (and rugby for that matter). We produced one of our best performances for a long time and paid off with some risky tactics,” he said.
Bartlett who also spoke on a wide variety of issues was the special guest on the live chat series on the SuperSport.com website.
Ace Broadcaster, Robert Marawa is next on the hot seat.Last week, Nigerian legend,Segun Odegbami also fielded questions from our fans last week.
